Waitarere Beach Renovation
2022
Waitarere Beach, New Zealand.
A sketch design for a young families beach suburb home away from home.
The house that was built in a paddock and ended up in suburbia. We developed this renovation as a light hearted critic of the classic New Zealand suburban condition, think 1.8M fences and brick walls as elbows jostling for position on the boundary. The existing brick was to be bagged and painted pink, imagine the neighbourhood response eh!
The original house was a maze of hallways and we managed to get rid of them entirely. It ended up producing a tight little plan with a nice variety of spaces.
